The Library and the Community
“A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people.”
These are the words of Andrew Carnegie, who invested his fortune in establishing more than 2,500 libraries nationwide. He was not investing in books or the buildings that hold them. He was investing in the educational fortitude of our nation’s people. He was investing in community strength...because libraries are vital to communities as educational centers that empower community members.
Dorothy Bramlage Public Library's Young People's Department is committed to this vision of community empowerment. We are... The library provides a variety of opportunities for parents, caregivers, and teachers to share knowledge with one another regarding parenting, education, and community resources and events. This enhances people’s confidence and skill as parents/educators, forms community-based social networks, and increases individuals’ knowledge of and participation in the community, all of which strengthen the community as a whole. Additionally, the library partners with a number of individuals and organizations within the community, promoting them and their services and expanding opportunities to reach community members effectively.
A Message from Young People's Department Head
"In the three years I have served as DBPL's Young People's Department Head, what has impressed me most is the support of our community organizations. Our interactions with these organizations have been exceedingly positive, and I so appreciate that the community shares our vision of reaching our young people and their families in ways that strengthen them and the community at large. This is a wonderful community to be part of and to partner with." Christa Beemer
