The library is education--empowering minds through creative investigation.
We serve early learners and middle-grade children in these key areas...
Early Learners
· Early Literacy—Our year-round preschool classes develop and promote foundations of early literacy through letter and number recognition, vocabulary building, language development, sequencing, and listening comprehension. The introduction to books celebrates the joy of reading, laying groundwork for a lifelong love of reading and learning.
· Social Development—Library preschool classes nurture young children’s abilities to develop awareness of self and others, strengthen their communication skills, foster the formation of relationships, and help them learn healthy social and emotional behaviors that set the course for future life success.
· Parent Education and Engagement—Library preschool classes empower parents as children’s primary teachers and influences. Classes extend parents’ knowledge of and resources for play and learning that stimulate the brain and nurture growth. They also educate parents in ways to help children build pre-reading skills and to model reading effectively.

STEAM
STEAM is an educational acronym referring to learning that emphasizes science, technology, engineering, art, and math. The primary purpose behind this educational focus is the development of skill sets that prepare students for the innovative nature of 21st-century global society. A variety of library classes and events promote STEAM learning, from our Touch a Truck event that introduces preschoolers to the wonder and power of engineering, to our Mad Science Week for elementary students, to our Summer Camps at Library Laboratory, and more. Library STEAM classes and events foster inquiry, discovery, investigation, creativity, and critical thinking to develop STEAM literacy; engage young people in STEAM processes; and equip learners to move forward in today's fast-paced STEAM-centered society, full-STEAM ahead. |
